Vintage Retro Art Posters
Vintage retro art means unique things to different people, but three themes which seem to show up on a recurring basis in vintage retro art posters are modes of transportation
(cars, motorcycles, and bicycles), celebrities (such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Humphrey Bogart), and styles. Clothing styles, decorating styles, and
lifestyles all played major roles in the creation of the photographs, the paintings, and other forms of vintage retro art that emerged primarily in the fifties and sixties. Because of
the 'disco era' and some odd clothing styles that came and went (leisure suits and gaudy silk shirts, to name two), the seventies are sometimes the subject of nostalgia events
and vintage retro art posters. The eighties and nineties didn't really have any distinctive styles, trends, or social movements that would tend to be the focus of vintage retro art
posters, but maybe in a decade or so, artists and writers will identify aspects of the past 25-30 years that will make that era an interesting subject for vintage retro art. (We may
be too close to the forest to see the trees.) In the mean time, the forties, fifties, and sixties -- with it's unforgettable styles, celebrity icons, percolating social unrest, and changing
values and mores -- will continue to be the focal point of vintage retro art.
